Children's privacy policy
Last updated · 2026-05-23
This is a plainer version of the bits of our privacy policy that matter most for young debaters and their parents or guardians. The full policy is at /privacy-policy.
Who Buildacase is for
Buildacase is a debate learning and analytics site. Most of our users are debaters between 14 and 22 years old. If you debate competitively, you're our audience.
If you are under 13
Please do not create an account.
US federal law (COPPA) and equivalent laws elsewhere set a higher bar for collecting data from anyone under 13. We chose not to clear that bar. Instead, we ask you to wait until you are 13 to sign in. Browsing the site without an account is fine at any age.
If you signed in and you are under 13, email hello@buildacase.ca and we'll delete the account. No questions.
If you are 13 to 17
You can use Buildacase. If you are unsure, talk to a parent or guardian.
Here is what we do and do not do with your data.
We do:
- Store your email and name so you can sign in.
- Store the tournaments you import, the lessons you complete, and the drills you do.
- Show your name and stats on a public profile if you set one up.
We do not:
- Sell your data to anyone.
- Share it with advertisers.
- Run ads targeted at you.
- Use it for AI or machine-learning training.
- Collect anything beyond what you actively give us.
High school tournaments are excluded from the leaderboard
The public Buildacase leaderboard ranks competitive university debaters. We exclude high school tournaments entirely, including mixed-field events where high school and university teams compete on the same Tabbycat tab. If you only debate at the high school level, you will not appear on the public leaderboard.
If you debated at a high school event that you think slipped through, email hello@buildacase.ca and we'll remove it within 48 hours.
What parents and guardians can do
You can ask us to:
- Show you the data we have on your child.
- Delete the account.
- Correct anything wrong.
- Delist your child from public surfaces like leaderboards or profiles.
Email hello@buildacase.ca from your address. Tell us your child's account email and which of the above you want done. We respond within 48 hours.
Why this page exists
A lot of educational sites bury this material in lawyer text. We think it should be readable.
If anything here isn't clear, email hello@buildacase.ca and we'll explain.
